Garlo
Garlo has gradually become a specialized platform for selecting and purchasing plants. For merchants, it represents a key marketing channel in the industry.
It all started as a typical startup back in 2015 at ČZU. At first, it was a traditional online shop for garden plants. This experience led to the development of a patented box system for transporting seedlings. Due to the founders’ limited capital, the portal evolved in 2018 into a plant search engine and price comparison site, where even the largest Czech garden centers and ornamental nurseries advertise their products—nurseries that otherwise only sell directly on-site.
The goal is to simplify plant shopping online so that customers can order all the plants they need in one place, paying just a single shipping fee—or even taking advantage of free delivery for everything.
In the background, Garlo is turning into a marketplace, much like my younger and somewhat more successful project Srovnejdrevo.cz, whose beta version even ran on Garlo for a few months. Today, the wood project alone generates annual revenues well above CZK 10 million.
We cannot handle so many customers on the market entirely by ourselves, and with such large projects it’s impossible to maintain high quality. However, we are not willing to give up on quality—and we have a solution. There is an exciting opportunity here to support other producers and specialized warehouses in these fields, something like franchisees for those without their own idea. We can provide partners with complete know-how as well as customers.
